Abstract: This paper offers a possibility of a revised understanding of the position of the architect. First, the new science of our age, biomimetics, and its potential in architecture is examined. The need for a methodological approach for the implementation of biomimetic strategies in architecture is addressed. Second, the nature of general system theory and the introduction of systems thinking in architecture is identified. The link between biomimetics, systems thinking and architecture is clarified. Finally, the focus is put on the changing role of the architect from the form-giver to the designer of the systems that designs a building.
