The interface between the surrounding medium (air) and photonic quasi-crystal is modified to sustain surface guided optical modes for slow light applications. The directional photonic band gap and surface modes are revealed by two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain analyses. It is shown that group index around similar to 70 can be achieved. The potentials of slow light realized with surface modes of photonic quasi-crystals may contribute certain applications of photonics where strong light-matter interaction is of paramount importance. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11851/7474 | ISBN: | 978-1-5386-0859-3 | ISSN: | 2162-7339 |
