Abstract: Although the innovation concept has been around for a while, enterprises still lack full understanding of this concept. Innovation is still confused with research & development and invention. Open innovation is even a newer concept and ways and methods for open innovation are still in development stages. This study aims to collect information from large size enterprises in Turkey on company profile, impact of innovation on sustainable growth, obstacles and challenges faced in growth, levels and methods of innovation and open innovation that are practiced in the enterprise, and the expectations of the enterprises from an open innovation web portal. The survey overall showed that open innovation awareness in top Turkish companies is still very low. In addition, there seems to be no relationships, at least for now, between some of the firm characteristics such as size and age and innovation awareness. The survey also showed that the two most important expectations from an open innovation web portal are trustworthiness of the portal management firm and privacy and security of the portal.
