Abstract: The rapid population growth and developments in technology and industry cause an increasing demand for energy resources. In this context, the energy needs of Turkey including electricity and heating will increase in the coming years because Turkey is mainly one of the developing countries. The government must choose renewable energy sources over time due to the negative effects of fossil fuels on human health and the environment, besides the decrease of fossil fuel resources. The purpose of this study is to present a decision-making procedure to determine whether renewable energy will be used in the relevant region. In the presented procedure, geothermal, solar, biomass, hydroelectric, and wind energy sources are evaluated by using the Intuitionistic Fuzzy TOPSIS method. The investment priorities of the selected facilities are sorted by using the obtained data, criteria, and expert opinions based on the relevant region. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
