Abstract: This chapter introduces an experiment in architectural design education through a course given in the Department of Architecture at the TOBB University of Economics and Technology in Ankara, Turkey. The course is designed around bookmaking to offer students the opportunity to integrate and synthesize the experience, knowledge and skills gained in the undergraduate program. The chapter suggests that the pedagogy of bookmaking blurs the boundary between thinking and making, design and its conception, theory and design, and theoretical courses and design studio in architectural education. By focusing on the creative relationship between architecture and the book, it shows how the transition of an architectural content into a book has implications for architectural thinking. The chapter examines the instrumentality of the book in the design thinking process to discuss how architects and architecture communicate through books, and also reveals the contribution of this communication to architectural education. © ISTE Ltd 2020.
