Prof. Acar s main research areas are shape/size/topology optimization of mechanical systems (especially aviation and automobile structures), determination of their reliability, design optimization under uncertainty, anti-collision design of automobile parts and life estimation. He has published more than 50 SCI indexed journal articles from his work so far.
Prof. ACAR has held different administrative positions at TOBB University of Economics and Technology, such as Vice President/ERASMUS Coordinator of Mechanical Engineering Department, Deputy Director of the Institute of Science, and Faculty Board/Faculty Administrative Board Member of School of Engineering.
Prof. ACAR was elected as an Associate Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) in 2014. Between 2011 and 2016, he served as a member of the AIAA Non Deterministic Approaches board technical committee. He has been on the editorial board of the International Journal of Crashworthiness (published by Taylor & Francis) since 2016. Furthermore, he has been one of the Review Editors of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (published by Springer) since 2017. He has been a member of the TÜBİTAK BİDEB Advisory Board since 2019. He is one of the 195 scientists from Turkey, included in the "most influential scientists list" created by a team of scientists from the USA and the Netherlands in 2020, using scientific impact indices such as the number of scientific articles, the number of citations, and the order of authors.
