Biography

Broadly construed, I am a social psychologist interested in the ways that sustained exposure to cultural practices influence behavior, emotion, and cognition. I adopt experimental, survey, and qualitative methods to gain insight about the role of socio-cultural factors on topics such as violence against women, retaliation, and forgiveness. In one line of research, I examine how social influences (e.g., being a member of honor culture) and individual differences (e.g., self-construal) interact in determining the attitudes toward these social issues. In the second line of research, I aim to explore underlying mechanisms (e.g., cognitive processes) behind these attitudes. I believe that understanding these mechanisms would help dealing with important social problems such as "violence against women".
