English Language and Literature Department
As the TOBB ETU Department of English Language and Literature, our goals are to conduct research on literary and cultural works in English, and to share our research and knowledge with students, scholars, and public in general. We aim to produce graduates who not only communicate effectively in both English and their mother-tongue and are equipped to teach English well themselves, but who are also open-minded and analytical critical thinkers, accomplished persons who are able to put their knowledge to valuable use and share it with others, and who have internalised the universal and multi-cultural human values that literature engenders. For this purpose, we present our students with an English Language and Literature curriculum that is interdisciplinary and adapted to the rapidly changing world. Knowing that a multi-faceted education will significantly contribute to their future success, we grant hard-working and enthusiastic students with the opportunity to do double majors or minors, and all students are required to learn a second foreign language. Our students also begin their careers one-step ahead in terms of work experience, thanks to our Cooperative Education model, according to which students spend three semesters in sectors relating to their field of study, consequently gaining the opportunity to apply their learning as they are learning it.


İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı Bölümü
İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı Bölümü’nün amacı İngilizce yazılan edebi ve kültürel eserler üzerinde bilimsel araştırmalar yapmak, bulgu ve bilgileri öğrenciler, akademisyenler ve toplum ile paylaşmak ve analiz yetisi kazanmış, bilgiyi değere dönüştürüp çevresindekiler ile paylaşabilen, edebiyatın kazandırdığı evrensel, çok kültürlü ve insani değerleri içselleştirebilen, hem İngilizce hem anadilinde kendisini yazılı ve sözlü olarak en iyi şekilde ifade edebilen, eleştirel ve çok yönlü düşünme yetisi gelişmiş, gerektiğinde İngilizceyi en iyi şekilde öğretebilen vizyon sahibi öğrenciler yetiştirmektir. Bölüm, yenilikçi bir anlayışla kurulmuştur. Hızla değişen çağın gereksinimlerini karşılayacak şekilde yenilenmiş, disiplinler-arasılığa önem veren bir İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı müfredatı tasarlanmıştır. Mezunların çok yönlü olabilmeleri için yan dal veya çift ana dal imkânlarının yanı sıra ikinci yabancı dil öğretimi ve branşlarıyla ilgili sektörlerde üç dönem boyunca çalışma tecrübesi edindiren “Ortak Eğitim” programı da programın temel ve ayırt edici unsurlarıdır.
